Delete your data
This page is about removing things from your Huddle account while keeping the account itself. If you want the whole account gone instead, use the account deletion page, which does it in one step and needs no app installed.
What you can delete yourself
All of this is in the app, and it takes effect immediately.
- Posts, polls and pulses. Open the post, tap the menu in its top corner, then Delete. Anonymous ones work the same way, from your profile.
- Comments and replies. Long press the comment, then Delete.
- Messages. Long press a message you sent, then Delete.
- Marketplace listings. Open the listing, then Delete listing.
- Resources you uploaded. Open the resource, then Delete.
- Events you created. Open the event, then Delete event.
- Your bio and profile photo. Profile → Edit profile. Clearing the bio and replacing the photo overwrites what was there.
Deleting a post, a listing or a resource also removes the images, video and files attached to it from our storage. They stop being reachable at the same moment the post does.
What to ask us for
Email support@huddle.ng from the address on your account and say what you want removed. We answer within 30 days and usually the same week. Ask us for:
- The record of your verification. The document itself, such as the photo of your matric card, is already deleted once it has been reviewed.
- Your profile photo removed rather than replaced.
- Your push notification tokens and the device records tied to them, which also stops notifications.
- Everything you have posted, in one go, with the account left open.
We ask from the account's own email address because there is no safe way to tell a deletion request from an attempt to wipe somebody else's work.
When it is gone
Anything you delete in the app is removed from the live database as you do it, and its files are removed from storage in the same request. There is no grace period and nothing is recoverable afterwards, by you or by us.
Encrypted backups exist so the service can be brought back from a failure. They are overwritten on a rolling basis, and deleted data ages out of them with the backups it was in. Nobody reads them in the ordinary course of running Huddle.
What stays
- Your account, so your email address, username, display name and sign-in stay as they are. Delete those on the account deletion page.
- Replies other people wrote under a post you deleted, as their own writing. The post they were replying to is gone.
- A space you created keeps running for the people in it and passes to another organiser.
- Moderation records, which exist for the people they were about rather than for us.
- Anything somebody else already screenshotted. Deleting a post removes it from Huddle and nowhere else.
