Huddle is your campus, with the people who are actually on it. Everything below comes down to one thing: the person you are replying to is someone you might queue behind at the bursary tomorrow. Write like it.

What this place is for

Finding out what is happening on campus before it reaches you by rumour. Getting a straight answer about a course from the people taking it. Passing on past questions and notes. Selling the fridge you are done with. Knowing who your reps are and what they said.

It works because everyone here signed up as a student at one university, and because a post reaches your campus rather than the whole internet. Both of those are easy to wreck, which is what the rest of this page is about.

Be a person about it

  • Argue with the point, not the person. Disagreement is the whole reason a campus forum is interesting. Insults, pile-ons and following somebody around to have another go at them are not.
  • Stop when asked. If someone tells you to leave them alone, leave them alone. Blocking exists, and going around a block is a serious matter.
  • Keep other people's business to themselves. Phone numbers, hostel and home addresses, matric numbers, results, medical details, screenshots of private chats. Posting any of that about somebody else is one of the fastest ways to lose an account here.
  • Be who you say you are. Do not pose as another student, a lecturer, a dean, the SU, or us.
  • No hate. Nothing aimed at people for their ethnicity, state of origin, religion, sex, gender, orientation or disability. Nigeria has enough of that without a student app adding to it.
  • No threats. Not as a joke, not as a warning, not as a subtweet everyone can decode.

What does not belong here at all

  • Anything sexual involving someone under 18. This is the one rule with nothing behind it: the account goes and the authorities hear about it. Our child safety standards set out the whole process.
  • Intimate images shared without consent, and threatening to share them. If this is happening to you, report it and email us. We move on these first.
  • Pornography and explicit material.
  • Gore and graphic violence posted for the sake of it.
  • Cultism, in any form: recruiting, glorifying, threatening on behalf of one, or signalling for one.
  • Pushing anyone towards suicide, self-harm or starving themselves. If you are the one struggling, you are allowed to say so here and people will show up for you. The rule is about people who push.
  • Drugs, weapons, stolen goods and forged documents.

Do not game it

  • No spam, no bulk DMs, no engagement bait, no asking for boosts.
  • No second accounts to vote for yourself, dodge a suspension, or look like a crowd.
  • No scams. Fake sales, fake scholarships, fake job offers, fake giveaways, betting tips, anything that needs money up front. If it promises a return, it is a scam, and reporting it helps everybody.
  • No phishing links and no links that lie about where they go.
  • No advertising a business that has nothing to do with campus. A student venture is welcome; a broadcast is not.

Coursework and exams

Past questions, notes, study guides and worked examples are the point of the resources section. Share them freely.

Live exam papers, leaked questions, and offers to write an assignment or sit a test for somebody are a different thing, and they are not allowed. Getting caught with them here can cost you more than an account. Do not upload a textbook PDF or a publisher's slides either, however normal it feels; that is somebody's copyright and we take it down.

Buying and selling

The marketplace is a noticeboard. No money passes through Huddle, so there is no refund button and nobody to appeal to but the person you dealt with.

  • Describe the thing honestly and own it before you list it.
  • Meet in daylight, somewhere public on campus, and bring a friend if the amount justifies one.
  • See the item before you pay. Nobody legitimate asks for a deposit on something you have not laid eyes on.
  • The terms list what cannot be sold. The short version is anything illegal, anything academic, and anything adult.

Anonymous posts

Posting anonymously means other students cannot see your name. It exists so people can raise something about a course, a hostel or a department without their face on it, which is worth protecting.

It is not a mask from us. Your account is still on the post, moderators reviewing a report can see it, and the rules apply the same way. An anonymous account that harasses somebody loses the account, not the post.

Spaces run themselves

Whoever creates a space runs it, and can set rules of their own on top of these. Those rules can be stricter than this page. They cannot be looser: a space cannot allow something Huddle forbids.

Moderators are students, not staff. If you think one is abusing the position, report it to us.

Reporting

Every post, comment and profile has Report in its menu. Pick the closest reason and add a line if it needs one. For something in a message, report the sender's profile. For anything urgent, email support@huddle.ng with a link.

We act on reports of objectionable content within 24 hours, by taking the content down and taking the account off Huddle. Child safety reports go straight to the front. Reporting is confidential: the person you reported is not told who sent it.

You can also block anyone, which takes them out of your feed and stops them reaching you, or mute them, which is quieter and only affects what you see. Muting a space keeps you in it while taking it out of your home feed.

Mass-reporting somebody you have a grudge against is itself a rule break, and it slows down the reports that matter.

What happens when a rule is broken

It depends on what it was and whether you have been here before. Most first offences end with the post coming down and a message explaining why. From there it runs through a warning, losing the ability to post for a while, being removed from a space, and closing the account for good.

Serious cases skip all of that. Child safety, credible threats and sharing intimate images without consent end the account on the first instance.

If we get it wrong, reply to the message we sent or write to support@huddle.ng. Somebody other than whoever made the first call looks at it again, and we aim to come back within seven days. The terms have the formal version.

One last thing

We do not read posts before they appear. Huddle is what the people on it make it, and it will be as good as the campus decides to make it. Report what should not be here, and the rest sorts itself out faster than you would think.
